There comes days in everyone’s Life, there comes days in every Sporting event that you can’t forget. Somedays are special, some are heartbreaking. 24 February 2010 was one such special day for cricketing world which no one can forget. It was the day when Great Sachin Tendulkar scored a double hundred in Men’s one day international cricket.

Since the advent of the ODI cricket many players played some blistering innings but none of them could convert their innings into double hundred. Lot of players tried but none could succeed.
Many players were in the list who went closer in scoring first double hundred of ODI cricket but failed to do so. Sachin Tendulkar (194), Charles Coventry (194notout), saeed Anwar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and many other went closer to score double hundred but it was written in Sachin Tendulkar fate to score it.
South African team was in india in 2010 for a 3 match odi series. This was the year where great preparation were going on for 2011 ODI World as it was going to take place in India. It was the second match of the ongoing series which was taking place in gwalior. India were batting first South Africa had great bowling attack at that time and it was the time when only one ball was used for first 33 overs so the ball use to become soft and scoring was never easy in those days.
Virender Sehwag, the opening partner of Sachin fell cheaply that day so the onus to score runs against the quality South African side was again on Tendulkar. Sachin started cautiously and scored his ton in his 442th ODI match after scoring the hundred he shifted his gears and started scoring very quickly.
At the other end it was dhoni who took the onus of scoring the runs. At the death overs dhoni started hitting the boundaries so Sachin got very less strike but in the fag end of the Indian innings finally got the opportunity and he took the single on the bowling of Charl Langeveldt at point.

In the year 2011 India went on to lift the odi worldcup and later in the year Virender Sehwag also hit the double hundred in ODI.
So it was the moment of rejoice for the entire nation that the first double century in men’s odi format came from an Indian player, the player who carried the burden of nation for 20 years.
