Women’s Premier League in India started on 4th March is showing great signs of success. Just two days into the tournament we have started seeing what the tournament can bring on the table for fans. Matches have started becoming interesting and nerve wrecking.
Grace Harris UP Warriorz |
One such match happened between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. Gujarat Giants won the toss and opted to bat and scored 169 runs in their quota of 20 overs. After the opening match of the tournament where Gujarat Giants lost very embarrassingly to Mumbai Indians, the score of 169 looked a great effort from their team. In reply to the score UP Warriorz started very poorly and lost the 3 wickets very early.
At one stage they lost their 7 wickets on the score of 105 in 16th overs. The loss looked surety for UP Warriorz but Grace Harris, the Australian allrounder had some other plans. She alongside Sophie Ecclestone started building up the partnership for their team. Grace Harris started scratchy innings, in first 15 balls she only scored 17 runs. She first got accustomed to the surface later started playing her shots. At one stage they needed 52 runs in 3 overs which was looking a very impossible target for them. But Grace Harris struck 42runs in next 11 balls and lead the team to the victory.
In the last over UP Warriorz needed 19 runs but they scored them quite comfortably with one ball to spare. Harris Grace later in the press conference praised Sophie Ecclestone innings as well, her innings kept the pace of the game going and eventually helped the team in winning the match.
When the tournament is in infancy these type of games pick them up. They help the tournament become success in great deal.
This game and the scenario in which UP Warriorz were at 17th over reminds all of us the T20 World Cup 2022 match between India and Pakistan, in the last three overs india needed 48 runs against a quality bowling line up. There Virat Kohli showed great determination and helped us win the match. Melbourne cricket ground registered the highest viewership that Day.
Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) already showed its Colors, tournament will only get better from this Match. Exciting matches coming surely.
